Eye conditions are remarkably common. Those who live long enough will experience at least one eye condition during their lifetime. 1 billion people live with vision impairment that could have been prevented or can be corrected.US$14.3 billion is needed to treat existing cases of refractive error and cataracts worldwide. Unaddressed distance vision impairment in many low- and middle-income regions is 4 times higher than in high-income regions.
Refractive errors can be easily corrected with eyeglasses, yet millions living in low and middle income countries lack access to basic eye care services. Lions have recognized the urgent need for corrective lenses and collect usable glasses in their communities to support the Lions Recycle For Sight Program.

DownloadWork in vision has been an integral part of Lions' history since the founding in 1917. The LCIF SightFirst program, in collaboration with Lions, health care providers, and partner organizations, has led the charge in Lions’ vision efforts over the last three decades, as one of LCIF’s most impactful grant programs. So much has been accomplished over the years. So much more can be accomplished in the future with continued support.
LCIF is known throughout the world for its work to improve the lives of people affected by visual impairments. Together with many Lions clubs, LCIF has provided significant grant funding to Leader Dogs for the Blind. LCIF proudly serves their continued efforts by offering unique and impactful initiatives, programs and grants.
